THE CAR COACH REPORTS: WEEK IN REVIEW 6-29-12
GO AWAY CAFE EDITION
And so it’s begun: http://www.autoblog.com/2012/06/28/2013-jaguar-xj-replaces-5-0l-v8-with-supercharged-v6/
Automakers have to effectively neuter their cars because of CAFE standards. While companies like Ford, Chevy and most other big brands are still able to produce high-horsepower cars because they have thrifty econoboxes to offset them, niche brands like Jaguar have to rely on smaller displacement and turbos to make their line more fuel-efficient.
The result, especially in the gorgeous Jaguar XJ, is a less powerful car that achieves a few more MPGs. Talk about a letdown! Doesn’t Uncle Sam realize people don’t buy these cars for fuel efficiency? Additionally, these kinds of cars make up so little of the total number of vehicles on the road that it won’t make any overall difference whatsoever if they’re more fuel efficient.
But it’s our government we’re talking about here--broad, sweeping regulations and a one size fits all policy. Need I mention what happened yesterday in the Supreme Court?
Once again, this all comes down to our leaders insisting they know what’s right for everyone and shoving their agenda down our throats. What’s going to happen to companies like Lamborghini?
I can see it now: “Introducing the 2025 Lamborghini Fantastico. Powered by a turbo-charged four cylinder engine with active stop/start assist and plug-in hybrid technology. 0-60 in an amazing 17 seconds and a top speed of 97 miles per hour!”
Sure, this is a slight exaggeration but you get the point.

My Final Thought
I am sharing a Facebook post from John Hennessey, founder of Hennessey Performance, which he wrote yesterday. It speaks for itself:
“An open letter to my fellow Americans. I am a job creator. In the past 20+ years I have directly and indirectly helped to create hundreds of jobs in the USA. Why? Because of my desire to make money by building a business to provide for my family doing what I love.
I enjoy creating things and sharing them with others. And if they are good enough, people pay me for it. And in the process I hire people to help me. Pretty simple.
So now the US Supreme Court says that it's OK for the feds to keep Obamacare - which is going to cause me more headaches and cost me more money over the next 20+ years of my business career. Or will it?
What if I decide that I am sick of the feds, their rules, taxes and general BS? What if I decide I am tired of taking the risk of running and growing a business? What when I get so fed up that I stop creating jobs? What happens when you multiply me by the other millions of small business job creators around the country?
Well, then if you want to find out, then you go vote for Obama in November. And if he gets re-elected I promise you that this would be the last straw and that I will be going a completely different direction. If he gets 4 more years and we have to live with Obamacare and the ever growing federal government running our lives, then I may just give up on the American dream. At least the dream that I grew up with. That my kids would inherit a country that was better than the one that I grew up in.
Today is a sad day and the amount of freedom that has been lost is massive. Let's pray for a new day and new direction come November. If not, then the job creators will be gone and won’t be coming back. At least that will be the case for this one.”
