GOVERNMENT MOTORS EDITION

THE CAR COACH REPORTS: WEEK IN REVIEW 9-14-12

GOVERNMENT MOTORS EDITION
The colloquialism “Government Motors” has never had more meaning than it does today.  Initially referring to the government’s buying of GM stock to keep the company afloat, the meaning has now shifted to how GM could influence the presidential election this November and the shape of government overall: http://www.autoblog.com/2012/09/13/horsepower-politics/#continued
While the Obama administration incessantly touts the auto bailouts and how the anointed one saved the auto industry and America, Romney stands by his statement that taxpayers shouldn’t have footed the bill and that GM and Chrysler should have gone through a traditional structured bankruptcy.
Now, a GM earnings report is scheduled for Oct. 31, only a week before the election.  Good news will bolster Obama and his stance, while bad news will vindicate Romney’s position.
So if you’re looking for a GM or Chrysler vehicle, perhaps you’ll want to act immediately or wait until after the election depending on your political views.  Who would have thought that buying an American vehicle could influence a presidential election?
The irony here is that the Obama administration wants Americans to be dependent on government, which in and of itself is a very anti-American notion, yet buying an American car is the patriotic thing to do.  So being a patriot and sticking with the American manufacturers could actually help keep our anti-American traditions president in the White House.
One other thing I should mention is that the cost of the auto bailouts cost taxpayers a ton of money.  The government cannot unload its GM stock for what it paid and will be taking a big loss.  Since when is taking Americans’ hard-earned money and investing it in a loss scenario the smart thing to do?
Perhaps Romney was right.

My Final Thought:
Please watch this: http://jalopnik.com/5943273/this-school-bus+dodging-asshat-was-busted-by-a-driver-with-a-camera-phone
It is a video of a driver using the sidewalk to get around a stopped bus with its flashing lights on.
All I have to say is: Really?!!!!  This is ridiculous.

Please know your state’s laws and follow them.  In most states you need be traveling in the opposite direction on a divided highway in order to lawfully not stop for a stopped bus or emergency vehicle.

Love your car!  See you next week!
